Coffee Education

San Cristobal Coffee Importers takes an integrative approach to achieving its objective of providing coffee roasters with high-quality green coffee from around the globe. From their cutting edge coffee tracing system, to their work with coffee growers and processors at origin, the fine folks of San Cristobal know coffee. In Nayarit, San Cristobal is integrated with Grupo Terruño Nayarita, a collective of coffee producers and processors producing superb, socially responsible specialty coffee.

It is through San Cristobal and Grupo Terruño Nayarita that we will illuminate the coffee supply chain for our adventurers. Arriving during harvest, you will have the opportunity to learn about the growing and harvesting process, trying your hand at picking coffee cherries yourself, and where in the world these tiny fruits go once picked. Depending on timing, we’ll be able to observe processes at the wet and dry mills, as well as cupping the coffees which have been harvested (cupping is the process of tasting coffees and determining overall quality, based on multiple factors on a numerical scale). We will share meals and swap tales with farmers and other coffee professionals, sampling a tiny sliver of life on a coffee farm in the hills of Mexico.

Nayarit is rich in cultural history and natural beauty: elegant old towns and cities, stunning coastline, world class birding, and exquisite hiking make the region a destination. Given the natural beauty at our finger tips in Nayarit, we will have several opportunities to explore what it has to offer, outside of excellent coffee.

Nayarit is located about halfway down the country of Mexico, on the west coast.
